Policymakers are recognising the benefits of increasing the use of bicycles in our communities. In urban areas, the focus is on providing a cycle path network in order to encourage commuters, which has led to a growing interest in End-of-Trip Facilities (or EOTFs).
An End-of-Trip facility is not just about parking for bicycles. At a minimum, they should also provide high quality bike security, showers/change rooms and lockers for storage. An EOTF is now considered an essential provision within contemporary office buildings to cater for the increasing popularity of commuting by bike.
The EOTF must be easily accessible for users, particularly from car park entrances. Design innovations, such as lighting, clear signage and wall art, should be considered and often form part of our recommendations along with other safety initiatives.
