What is a parking consultant?
A parking consultant is a multi disciplinary professional advisor whose role is to achieve a car park. The consultant's objective is to achieve the optimum relationship between development costs, customer convenience and revenue generation in order to maximise the value of the property for the owner or developer.
What skills should I look for in a consultant in the field of parking and traffic?
A good consultant should have qualifications and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: civil and traffic engineering, architecture and car park design, finance and business strategy, project management and contract administration. Above all he/ she should be fully independent of equipment suppliers and operators in order to ensure that his/her advice is given for the exclusive benefit of the client.
I already have a traffic engineer and/or architect. Why do I also need a parking consultant?
Parking consultants work with architects and traffic engineers to achieve a car park which:
- Complies with regulatory standards
- Maximises space efficiency
- Is simple to get into and quick to get out of
- Provides ease in finding a parking space
- Makes customers feel safe in
- Creates a strong sense of user loyalty
All of these outcomes lead to maximisation of returns for the car park in particular, and the development as a whole.
A good parking consultant will also advise on a myriad of operational and management elements which all go toward ensuring that the car park achieves and maintains strong returns.

How do you calculate your fees?
PCI's fees are calculated on our previous experience of similar assignments, taking into consideration the particular requirements of each project. We build an estimate of hours to complete the assignment and value those hours at the consultants' individual hourly rates. Subject to our clients' preference we normally provide a fixed fee so that the full extent of the investment is known. In the context of the specific project, you can expect the value we provide to be far in excess of our fees.
I already have a car park operator. What value can PCI add to my car park?
PCI is an independent firm of consultants and therefore can assist property owners to assess the current performance of a car park and provide advice on strategies to improve presentation, occupancy, procedures and controls - all aimed to maximise the property's return.
How do I know if I have the most cost effective equipment in my car park?
Access and revenue control equipment for car parks is in constant evolution and development. We recommend that property owners perform an independent analysis of existing car park equipment on a regular basis to ensure that all control features of the equipment are being used and reported on. In the event of the entire property being refurbished we recommend that the car park equipment, signage and general presentation be reviewed and upgraded as necessary. Additional features such as CCTV, parking guidance systems and individual space recognition technology should be considered depending on the individual circumstances.
